UNO Band Alumni Reunion/Saker Retirement Celebration!

That’s Right! After 35 years at UNO, Dr. James Saker will retire!
To celebrate his years of teaching and service to his profession, the University of Nebraska Omaha, along with UNO Band Alumni will host a Retirement/Reunion Celebration April 11-13, 2014!
We have a weekend of exciting events planned to celebrate the Alumni Reunion and honor Dr. James Saker’s years of service to music education and the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Events for the weekend will include:

•    UNO Alumni Band Rehearsal and Social gathering
 Welcome Picnic 5:30-7:00PM – Elmwood Park
 Rehearsal Friday Evening 7:00-9:00PM - Room 109 (for those who have arrived) 
 Rehearsal Saturday Afternoon 1:30-3:30PM - On Stage

•    Banquet Dinner($25/person)6:00PM – Saturday Evening, Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom
With guest speakers and musical guests (and perhaps even a few surprises!)

•    Concert including Alumni Band and current Symphonic Wind Ensemble 3:00PM Sunday
    In the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall       
Reception to follow in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom

Note that a dress rehearsal at 1:00 on Sunday has been added.  Even if this is the only rehearsal you alums are able to attend, all will be performing with the Alumni Wind Ensemble on the concert.

Special Guests Attending:  The concert program will include the premier of a new concert opener composed by Professor Barry Ford.  Larry MacTaggart has composed a new work for Trombone and Wind Ensemble that Dr. Pete Madsen will perform with the composer conducting.  Janis Purins, conductor from Latvia, will conduct a piece for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble that Artist Faculty Instructor of Clarinet, Cindy Nichols will perform.  Many former faculty members including four former assistant Director of Bands have indicated they will attend.  Retired faculty, numerous professional colleagues, and members of the university faculty, staff and administration have indicate their plans to attend as well.  

Efforts to contact the alums of the UNO Bands who were not music majors are currently underway:  Information was mailed to alums with a degree in music in December.  However, our assistance is needed to help contact former bands members were not music majors.  Please forward this information to those you have contact with and copy current assistant director of bands, Tim Nutting on the email.  Please send any other contact information to Tim as well.
Note to all: There is no charge for any of the activities except the Saturday Banquet.  Donations for the Saker Symphonic Wind Ensemble Leadership Scholarship Fund will be accepted.
